Night of the statue

Work on 3ds max' particles systems. Made in 1 week. The scenery was made in 4 hours. Same time, approximately, for the monster. The rest of the week was concentrated on the particles, FX and renderer (plus the work for the others subjects :D ).

Travail sur le système de particules de 3ds Max. Fait en 1 semaines. Le décor a été fait en 4 heures. Même temps, approximativement pour le monstre. Le reste de la semaine a été concentré sur les particules, la FX et les rendus (en plus du travail d'autres matières à côté :D ).

PROJECT FROM THE PAPER TO CGI : Tom and Jerry

This is the great project for the first half of my second year at my CGI school : Adapt into CGI 10 seconds of an existing 2D cartoon. For me, I chose an extract of a cartoon starring to characters who rocked my childhood : Tom and Jerry, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
This is my very first attempt at animating a CGI character.

Voici le gros projet de la première moitié de ma seconde année de mon école de 3D : adapter en 3D 10 secondes d'un dessin animé 2D existant. Pour ma part, j'ai choisi un extrait d'un cartoon avec en vedette deux personnages qui ont bercé mon enfance : Tom et Jerry, créé par William Hanna et Joseph Barbera. C'est ma première tentative d'animer un personnage 3D.

CGI, compositing and training

This was a work for school to learn how to make fire with 3ds Max particles system. We have to make a bomb, fire burning the wire, and BOOM !
And for more fun, I decided to put my bomb into this classic ( and funny) scene of 1966's Batman (starring Adam West and Burt Ward).

Ceci était un travail d'école pour apprendre à faire du feu avec le système de particules de 3ds Max. Il fallait faire une bombe, le feu brûlant le fil, et BOUM !
Et donc pour le plaisir, j'ai décidé de mettre ma bombe dans cette scène classique ( et amusante ) du Batman de 1966 ( avec Adam West et Burt Ward)

This was a work for school to learn to use the 3ds Max gravity system. The aim was to put a giant tornado into a picture taken by our teacher.
I went further by filming myself to introduce the video, like some excited guy decided to go out and film the tornado (you will recognize the voice of Paul "Yosemitebear" Vasquez, also known as "the double rainbow guy" :D ), and make a cow blown away, for the fun.

Ceci était un travail d'école pour apprendre à utiliser le sytème de gravité de 3ds Max. L'objectif était de mettre une tornade géante dans une photo prise par notre professeur.
Je suis allé plus loin en me filmé pour introduire la vidéo, comme si un mec excité avait décidé de sortir et de filmer la tornade (vous reconnaitrez la voix de Paul "Yosemitebear" Vasquez, plus connu sous le nom de "double rainbow guy" :D ) et de faire une vache emporté par le vent, pour le plaisir.

Ceci était un travail d'école pour apprendre comment faire de l'eau réaliste sous 3ds Max.

This was a great project for school. The aim was to work on light and atmosphere. And for that, our teacher had a great idea : make the big travel of a ball into a spaceship. Everybody have to work on 10 seconds of this video, so I have to be careful on what my classroom's neighbours were doing, so I can do something fitting with their project. Great experience !

Ceci était un grand projet pour l'école. L'objectif était de travailler sur les lumières et l'atmosphère. Et pour cela, notre professeur a eu une super idée : faire le grand voyage d'une balle à travers un vaisseau spatial. Tout le monde devait travailler sur 10 secondes de cette vidéo, il fallait donc que je fasse attention à ce que mes voisins de classe faisait, pour que je fasse quelque chose qui soit bien raccord avec leur projet. C'était une super expérience !
C'est ma partie.

Gremlins in the Temple of Doom

For this one, no purpose, except performing myself at photoshop :D
Temple of Doom, when Gremlins decides to play it Indiana Jones !

WHAT IS IT ?

In the movie Gremlins the new batch, Gizmo plays it Rambo after watching on télévision an extract of this Stallone's movie ("To survive a war, you got to become war !") and kills Mohawk (for thoses who don't know, he is the Boss, the spider, that's it, tonight, you'll sleep less stupid :D) by shooting him a match in hi face !
But, there's a guy in France who is calling himself Lucifersam (me in this particular case) and thought "Hey ! What's about Gizmo making a massacre of gremlins !", and what's better than(perhaps Matrix, to be continued) Kill Bill v1 by Tarantino, where Uma Thurman rips all Lucy Liu's guards with some Katana's blow ! A stuff that, sure, shall be ridiculous on the big screen, but as a fan-made, why not ? After all, not later than the last year, an animator called Sacha Feiner inlayed his puppets in movies like Batman, Indiana Jones ect..
So, there is my fan made, like that, made alone, and at the time I'm writing thoses lines I still never had any animation teaching ! You got to imagine that Gizmo didn't watch Rambo, but Kill Bill.

1 week of making a story-board that I'm the only one who can understand it !
6 month of drawing
5 month of coloring a drawing after another
1 month of compositing
1 week working on sound effect
3 hours compiling
147 moments becoming mad !
To conclude : 1 year approximatively to finish this video, but the result belongs is a little as good as I hoped !

Someone is not here : Where is the bat gremlin ?
Put him into this cartoon would be great, we can imagine a lot of cool actions with a flying character. But if I wanted to respect the story-line of the movie, this fellow have been petrified into fresh plaster and now, he is sitting under a statue form on the cathedral St Eva Marie's roof ! Ashame !

I'd like to thanks a lot Sébastien Vallart, bass player of the band Deshumanizing Process and a very good friend, who helped me at coloring the pictures ! Dude, you're awesome !

Now, I'm hoping you will have the same pleasure watching this video than me making it.

QU'EST CE QUE C'EST ?

Dans le film Gremlins 2 la nouvelle génération, Guizmo se la joue Rambo après avoir vu à la télévision un extrait de ce film de Stallone ("Pour survivre à la guerre, il faut devenir la guerre !"), et tue Mohawk (pour ceux qui ne savent pas, c'est le Boss, l'araignée, voila, ce soir, vous vous coucherez moins bête :D) à coup d'allumette dans la gueule !
Mais voila, il y a un mec en France qui se fait appeler Lucifersam (moi en l'occurrence) et qui s'est dit "Tiens ce serait cool que le mogwai fasse un massacre de gremlins !", et quoi de mieux (sinon Matrix, affaire à suivre ...) que Kill Bill v1 de Tarantino, où Uma Thurman déchiquette toute la garde de Lucy Liu à coup de Katana bien placé ! Un truc qui certe vaudrait rien sur grand écran, mais en tant que fan-made, pourquoi pas ? Après tout, pas plus tard que l'année dernière, un animateur répondant au nom de Sacha Feiner a bien incrusté ses marionnettes dans Batman, Indiana Jones ect...
Voici donc mon fan-made, fait comme ça, seul, alors qu'au moment où j'écris ce ligne, je n'ai toujours pas eu de cours d'animation ! Il faut imaginer que Gizmo n'a pas regardé Rambo, mais Kill Bill.

1 semaines de "story-board" que je suis seul à pouvoir comprendre.
6 mois de dessins.
5 mois de coloriage dessin par dessin
1 mois de montage vidéo
1 semaine de travail du son
3 heures de compilation
147 pétages de câble
Au final : 1 ans approximativement pour achever cette vidéo, mais le résultat est à peu prêt à la hauteur de ce que j'espérais !

Un absent : Où est le Gremlin Chauve-souris ?
Le mettre aurait été génial, on aurait pu imaginer quelques jolies actions avec un personnage volant. Mais voila, en respectant la logique du film, celui-là a été pétrifié dans du plâtre frais, et il siège maintenant sous forme de statue sur les toits de la cathédrâle St Eva Marie ! Dommage !

Je remercie tout particulièrement Sébastien Vallart, bassiste du groupe Deshumanizing Process et néammoins ami, qui m'a prêté main forte sur le coloriage ! T'es génial mec !

Maintenant, j'espère que vous aurez autant de plaisir à la regarder que j'ai eu à la faire !

F.E.A.R. Secret Corridor (fan made)

I learnt a fantastic possibilty with Photoshop and After effect : to transform a simple picture into a real 3d picture which you can explore ! Awesome.
So, for the fun, I chose to imitate a great and scary video game call F.E.A.R. Enjoy all you Alma fans !

Résultat d'un travail d'incrustation. L'objectif principal était de parvenir à recréer l'ambiance général de la photo de départ, puis de détruire le sol au rayon lazer :D.
